Biofuels for transportation
This work package deploys advance numerical simulations of biofuels under engine-like conditions.
The objectives of WP 4 are:
- Generation of an experimental database of physicochemical properties of liquid fuels and blends, that can be considered as replacement fuels in new technologies of internal combustion engines. This database will be used for model validation and assessment of fuels.
- Development of an HPC-based framework using high-fidelity simulations with LES for the characterization of the combustion process and emissions characteristics of alternative fuels in transportation under engine-like conditions. This includes fuel atomization and spray formation, combustion and emissions.
- Validation of the proposed methodology for problems of industrial interest at conditions relevant to internal combustion engines. The cases include single-hole injectors and mono-cylinder combustion engine.
